Csiu Drivers Education
Essential guidance and instruction The CSIU provides classroom theory and behind-the-wheel instruction to student drivers on a fee-for-service basis. As a way to ensure student drivers are learning the rules of the road through the instruction and example set forth by their parents, the CSIU offers both classroom theory and behind-the-wheel instruction to student drivers. 'Parents have the most influence when it comes to teaching their children how to operate a vehicle. And because they can best gauge the teen's knowledge, skills and maturity, they play an important role in determining when a student is ready to take the driver licensing exam.
The CSIU driver instructors work in tandem with parents in teaching teens the rules of the road and operating vehicles safely.' – Julie Shumaker, Program Manager Types of instruction The CSIU can provide both classroom theory and behind-the-wheel classes, in addition to the 30-hour, online course that is available through the program. Classroom theory (in either format) and a valid learner’s permit are prerequisites for teens registering for behind-the-wheel (BTW) courses. After students meet the prerequisites and also complete 65 hours of driving with a parent/guardian (or other approved adult), they are eligible to take behind-the-wheel classes with a CSIU instructor. After they log six hours of drive time, the instructor can administer the driver licensing exam on a PennDOT-approved course.
